In West Virginia, elections are overseen by the West Virginia Secretary of State.

REGISTERING TO VOTE IN West Virginia:

  • Voters must register 21 days before an election

  • Register online with West Virginia driver’s license or ID, by mail, or in person at your local county clerk’s office.

PRIMARY RULES:

  • Semi-Closed Primaries, meaning voters registered with a party must vote in that primary. Unaffiliated voters may vote in any primary.

WAYS TO VOTE:

  • In Person on Election Day

  • Early In Person (Available to walk-ins from October 24 - November 3, 2018 at local county courthouses.)

  • Absentee (Application must be received no later than 6 days before the election and must be postmarked by election day. Must be mailed to local County Clerk.)

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

  • ID is required to vote, but requirements aren’t stringent.

    • Valid, unexpired non-photo ID is technically required, but an accompanying adult can sign an affidavit vouching for your identity.
