In the District of Columbia, elections are overseen by District of Columbia Board of Elections.

REGISTERING TO VOTE IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA:

  • Same Day Registration is available with proof of residence.

  • Register online (with valid DC driver’s license), or fill out the same online form and submit by mail or in person at Board of Elections or any DC agency offices.

  • Deadline no later than 21st day before the election.

PRIMARY RULES:

  • Closed Primaries, meaning voters can only vote in the primary of the party in which they are registered.

WAYS TO VOTE:

  • In Person on Election Day

  • Early (Goes from October 22, 2018 – November 2, 2018, 8:30am-7:00pm at these locations.)

  • Absentee by Mail or in Person (Mail in requests must be received no later than the 7th day before the election.  Ballots must be received by 8:00pm Election Day.  The request can be done electronically on a smart phone or tablet.  Also, any form of written and signed communication requesting an absentee ballot is acceptable.)
