In New Hampshire elections are overseen by the New Hampshire Election Division.

REGISTERING TO VOTE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE:

  • Same Day Registration is available with ID and proof of address.

  • Register by mail or in person at a Town Clerk’s Office, your community’s Supervisors of the Checklist, or if you live in a city, the Registrar of Voters at city hall.

  • Last day to register is the day of your local Supervisors of the Checklist meeting, which will be between 6-13 days prior to the election.

PRIMARY RULES:

  • Semi-Closed Primaries, meaning voters registered with a party must vote with that party.  Nonaffiliated voter can request any ballot.

WAYS TO VOTE:

  • In Person on Election Day

  • Absentee By Mail or In Person (Application can be completed by mail or in-person. Ballots must be received by 5:00pm on Election Day.)

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

  • ID is required to vote, but voters can complete an affidavit in lieu of presenting ID.  

    • Acceptable forms of ID include: Driver's license from any state or federal government, non-driver’s ID card issued by any state, US armed services ID or passcard, US passport or passcard, student ID issued by listed institutions in NH (postsecondary schools; requires date of issuance), any other photo ID considered legitimate. IDs must be valid unless voter is 65 or older.

    • Any voter who does not present an approved photo ID, or have their identity verified by an election official, will be permitted to vote after executing a challenged voter affidavit.

  • Polling Hours: Polls open between 6:00-11:00am and close between 7:00-8:00pm depending on location.
