In New Jersey elections are overseen by the New Jersey Department of State.

REGISTERING TO VOTE IN NEW JERSEY:

  • Register by mail or in person.

  • Voters must register at least 21 days before an election.

PRIMARY RULES:

  • Semi-Closed Primaries, meaning voters with party affiliation must vote in their party’s primary, while voters with no party affiliation can vote in any primary.

    • Voters who want to change party affiliation must do so at least 55 days prior to the primary election.

WAYS TO VOTE:

  • In Person on Election Day

  • Absentee / By Mail (Application must be received by the County Clerk at least 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m. on the day before the election.
