In New Jersey elections are overseen by the New Jersey Department of State.

REGISTERING TO VOTE IN NEW JERSEY:
Register by mail or in person.
Voters must register at least 21 days before an election.
Semi-Closed Primaries, meaning voters with party affiliation must vote in their party’s primary, while voters with no party affiliation can vote in any primary.
Voters who want to change party affiliation must do so at least 55 days prior to the primary election.

Absentee / By Mail (Application must be received by the County Clerk at least 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3:00 p.m. on the day before the election.
